Our Staff

Sue

Hospital Manager

Sue started as a client at HVC in 2013 and after 32 years in the legal field was pulled from an exam room by Dr. Bartos to work at HVC. Sue came to us from New Jersey where she grew up in a family of animal lovers. While young, she and her brothers used to dress their family dog in all sorts of crazy outfits. She was known in her first apartment by the landlord as the “gal who thinks we don’t know she has a cat!” She loves cats and “dawgs,” especially her Dachshund Stanley.

Val

Inventory Manager

Val has been at HVC since July of 2009. She started as a receptionist and is now the Inventory Manager. She has also been a client of the practice since February 1991. Val says she wouldn’t want her pets to ever lack anything needed to comfort, care, cure, or make their lives better, and she feels the same way about our patients. She truly believes that our pets love us unconditionally and we should love them the same way. She was a dog mom in the past and is now mom to two cats, Mischief and Poppet (both Siamese Mixes), who keep her on her toes.

Julianne

Veterinary Technician

Julianne joined us in 2020. Whether your pet is admitted to our hospital for a wellness service, grooming, or illness, Julianne will be sure his or her stay is as comfortable as possible. She has always felt comfort from her pets and tries to be sure every patient she encounters feels comfort from her. Julianne is a Connecticut native who lives in NSB. She would rescue every special-needs or senior dog if she were able. She and her family are owned by three Westies, Bean Town, Fenway, and Tatum.

Rocio

Veterinary Technician

Rocio has been in the veterinary field for 3 years. From a young age, she has loved Cocker Spaniels and still says they are her favorite dog breed. However, if you see her with any dog, you will think that breed is her favorite. She loves them all and treats them with compassion and love. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and 3 dogs, Daizy Frida (Cocker Spaniel), Paloma (Bernadoodle), and Timbuki (Shih Tzu).

Cam

Veterinary Technician

Cam came to us with many years of veterinary technician experience. From a young age, she has had a strong passion for helping animals. She brings both compassion and practical expertise to every aspect of caring for our patients. Cam’s greatest priority outside of work is being a mom, a role that shapes her values of patience, care, and commitment. She teaches her son the importance of treating animals with kindness. She spends her time outside of work with her fiancée, son, and dog Gunner (German Shorthaired Pointer).

Denisia

Veterinary Technician

Denisia has worked in the veterinary field for many years. She has loved animals since she was a child and would always try to take in the homeless animals. She always has a smile on her face, and she is quite funny. She always says that pets don’t have the option to take care of themselves; they need us to do that for them! Her own pet, Wonder the Pit Bull, means the world to her. Side note: she also says she loves to eat!

She explains her passion for animals as a calling that drives her to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. She lives locally with her children and her three-legged Pit Bull, Crash.

Emily

Veterinary Assistant

Since childhood, Emily has wanted to work with animals. She treats our patients with kindness and compassion and is always smiling. Marylou

Administrative Assistant/Client Services Representative

Marylou was Dr. Bartos’ first employee at HVC over 30 years ago. She can work almost any position in the hospital, except Veterinarian, of course. She believes preventative medicine is the best medicine and assures our patients are well taken care of. You have probably received a phone call or mail from Marylou to let you know your pet is due for services. Marylou is mom to littermates Pancake and Pattycake (both Domestic Shorthairs).

Heather

Client Services Representative

Heather came to HVC with many years of client services experience, with many of those being in the pet industry. She is a Volusia County native who loves all things outdoors. She has always loved animals and has spent countless hours on her aunt’s and uncle’s farm. Her goal as a CSR is to make every patient and their owners feel comfortable and welcome. She wants clients to never leave with questions and for them to always feel confident with their pet’s care. Heather keeps us laughing with her “Heatherisms” and is known to break out into song at times. She has two dogs, Milo and PeeWee (Toy Rat Terriers who are brothers). She says her pets are “the lucky to her charms!”

Pam

Client Services Representative

Pam was a CSR with us a while back but left when her second grandchild was born so she could babysit him. Once he was old enough to attend school, Pam came back to us! Before Pam’s first stint working with us, she had many years of experience in the veterinary field. As a child, she was always bringing home stray animals and wildlife. She takes pride in her job, and her goal as a client services representative is to be sure every patient and client feels like their needs were met. She and her husband live in Mims with their cats Taz and Dixie and have been known to have a flock of chickens.

Kim

Client Services Representative

Kim joined HVC with many years of CSR experience in the veterinary industry in Pennsylvania. She feels part of our role on earth as humans is to take care of animals, especially those that rely solely on us for care. She works part-time and spends the rest of her time with her two young daughters and husband. They live locally with Spot and Peanut Butter (both Walker Tree Hounds), Flip Flop and Carrots (bunnies), Meena, Tiana, Sparkle, and Raja (Parakeets), Louie and Lilly (Cockatiels), Mooshi (Bearded Dragon), and Lizzy (Leopard Gecko).

Mindy

Groomer

Mindy joined HVC as a Veterinary Technician in 2013. She came to us with 20 years of technician and grooming experience. After a few years with us, she left her responsibilities as a tech and became our Groomer! We don’t want to brag about how good she is, but she is typically booked out for months, with most of her clients scheduling out for the year. She spends a lot of time with your pet and puts them at ease. She is referred by other groomers in the area for some of their “not so groom-friendly clients” and is careful and caring with each of them. Mindy and her boyfriend live locally with their dog Poe (Bulldog Mix) and three cats Alice, Osirus, and Toast (all Domestic Shorthairs).

Founder – Retired

Kathleen D. Bartos, M.S., D.V.M., recently retired after providing veterinary care to the Volusia County community for over 35 years. She founded HVC in July 1990. Dr. Bartos and her husband enjoy retirement while staying active in their Church and spending time with their dog Abby (Labrador Retriever) and their cats Dax (Siamese) and Mr. Meowgi (Domestic Longhair). They enjoy traveling the United States and abroad. Locally, you can find them hiking and enjoying the beautiful Volusia County outdoors.

Our Clinic Pets

No veterinary family would be complete without a few resident animals. These beloved companions help make our hospital feel like home.

Trip

Clinic Cat

Trip came to us as a kitten in March 2011. Even though he keeps us all on our toes, he loves to have his big belly rubbed and to share our lunches. He is also often found sleeping in our pharmacy inbox! He was named after Star Trek Enterprise’s Chief Engineer Charles “Trip” Tucker III, since we all think he’s out of this world!

Scotty

Clinic Cat

Scotty was born in April of 2020. He was brought in with his littermates at just a few weeks old and was picked from the litter to be an HVC clinic cat. His littermates were all adopted by HVC staff members. He is named after the Star Trek Lieutenant Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. We know he will live long and prosper!

In Loving Memory

We’ll always hold a special place in our hearts for the clinic companions who are no longer with us. Thank you for the years of joy you brought to our hospital family.
